Reduction of flue gases in the industry

RedNOx® is a comprehensive offer for three reductants – special solutions based on urea and ammonia, which allow effective use of the SCR/SNCR technology and reduction of nitrogen oxides (Nox).

The RedNOx® Effect

In response to these requirements, three comprehensive reductant solutions have been developed to cater for the needs of nitrogen oxides reucing plants. This way, the RedNOx® product group was created:

  • NOXy® (otherwise AdBlue®1),
  • PULNOx® (40 and 45% aqueous urea solutions),
  • LIKAM® (25% aqueous ammonia solution).
SCR/SNCR technology

SCR is a technology based on the selective catalytic reduction. Thanks to its application with NOXy® (otherwise AdBlue®), nitrogen oxides (NOx) are decomposed to nitrogen and water.

SCR systems using NOXy® are increasingly used not only in trucks but also in personal vehicles, vehicles from the off-road segment (agricultural machines, construction equipment) and marine vessels. Pulnox® and Likam® reductants enable meeting NOx emission standards for large power generating units – power plants, combined heat and power plants, incineration units and cement plants.

EU requirements

According to EU Directives, from 1 October 2006 new stringent emission standards entered into force – EURO IV, from 1 October 2008 – EURO V. In 2014, a new EURO VI standard was introduced. The necessity to fulfill these requirements made Group Azoty to lok for new solutions in the field of reduction of emissions of harmful oxides (NOx).

NOx – harmful emissions

Nitrogen oxides (NOx) are ones of the most dangerous substances emitted as a result of the economic activities of man.

The largest amount of them enters the air during:

  • flue gas emissions by transportation means,
  • combustion of fuels in power stations, CHPPs, heat plants and boiler rooms that use principally coal as the fuel,
  • technological processes in industrial plants (iron & steel, cement, chemical industries).
